The Institute

The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) focuses each day on discovering answers to fundamental questions of the brain. Basic research provides the most important source of new knowledge with long-lasting impact for our society. In collaboration with a world-leading research organization, The Max Planck Society, MPFI takes an uncompromising approach to excellence in uncovering today’s new discoveries that will lead to a better understanding of tomorrow.

At MPFI, our research is focused on neural circuits. Our scientists investigate fundamental aspects of these critical networks within the brain and develop new technologies that make groundbreaking discoveries possible. The knowledge emerging from this basic research is shared publicly with universities and institutions around the world to serve as a foundation for developing new treatments and cures for
brain disorders.

Part of the prestigious Max Planck Society, MPFI is the first and only institute of its kind in North America, providing a vibrant, interactive environment where scientists are provided substantial ongoing support that empowers them to take on high-risk projects that act as a catalyst for highly-rewarding innovations. With a global network of over 80 Max Planck Institutes worldwide and 15 Max Planck Institutes investigating aspects of brain science, ours is a unique infrastructure of collaboration, inspiration, and support in scientific discovery.

The Max Planck Society’s philosophy of discovery intersects with curiosity and creativity of the brightest minds from around the world, making impossible discoveries possible. We relentlessly pursue excellence to better understand the complexities of the human brain and drive innovation and scientific leadership for the future of our society.
