Animal Care Technician

We are currently seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for an Animal Care Technician. Working as part of our Animal Resources Center, the selected candidate will provide cage change for various species housed with a focus on rodents.  This individual will also provide backup for cage wash services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Typical duties may also include managing daily animal care; assisting other animal technicians when needed (including working with other animal species); monitoring animals during and after surgery; maintaining colony management software and daily health records; preparing diets; and performing other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is preferred. Must possess organizational abilities, effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.  AALAS certification and experience with multiple rodent colonies, genotyping, rodent phenotyping and husbandry are preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to build and maintain rapport and trust with a diverse population of people as well as internal colleagues and peers; must demonstrate excellent judgment and possess the ability and desire to provide flexible customer service; and must possess excellent follow up, organization, and communication skills.

Additional Information

As essential personnel, the selected candidate must be available for weekend, holiday, and emergency rotations.
