We are currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Head of Viral Vector Core.
The selected candidate will work to establish, run, and lead our newly formed Viral Vector Core facility. This core facility will provide Adeno Associated Virus (AAV), Adenovirus (AV), Rabies Virus, Herpes Virus, and Lenti Virus based Viral Vectors, as well as other gene transfer technologies, to research staff at the Institute.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities will also include producing viral vectors, including AAV, AV, Rabies, Herpes and Lenti viral vectors; titrating viral vectors using cell based assays, qPCR; performing molecular biology cloning, sequence analysis, PCR, and qPCR; executing and documenting laboratory procedures and experiments with great attention to detail; managing a small research group; collaborating with Group Leaders on the development of methods, and on experiments that include molecular biology/viral vector technologies as they pertain to neuroscience; engaging in advancing gene delivery and manipulation technologies; developing and implementing training programs to assure continuity of operations and scientific core activities; developing and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and methods for laboratory operation; providing direction and guidance to scientific staff and student interns; and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Education and/or Experience
A PhD and a minimum of 3 years of related scientific experience is required, preferably in an academic environment. Must have demonstrated extensive experience in cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and viral vector production, expertise with viral vectors, gene editing technologies, neurobiology experience, cell culture experience with multiple cell lines, experience with molecular biology DNA isolation, primer design, PCR, cloning techniques, and strong data analysis skills and experience with a variety of scientific software applications. The selected candidate must possess demonstrated excellence in writing, interpreting, organizing, and communicating and must possess high levels of discretion professional judgment, ethics, and confidentiality. The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, motivated to apply their skills to diverse projects and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
