Department: Fitzpatrick Lab
We are seeking an individual to join the laboratory of Dr. David Fitzpatrick as a Research Technician. The Fitzpatrick Lab focuses on understanding the organization of brain circuits. This position will report to the Lab Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be a productive member of the research team, participate in research projects, and help maintain the operation of the laboratory. Responsibilities will include assisting graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in their projects; providing animal care related to research procedures, including assisting in sterile surgeries, recording vitals and monitoring health; performing basic cleaning and preparatory procedures, including cleaning medical instruments, wrapping surgical packs for autoclaving, and cleaning the surgical suite or procedure area; conducting microscopy, immunohistochemistry and molecular cloning; trouble-shooting and problem-solving as related to the research project; keeping a detailed laboratory notebook, accurately collecting records of experiments and back-up data on departmental servers; and other duties as required.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a related scientific discipline or equivalent (e.g. neuroscience, cell & molecular biology) is required. Previous experience working with laboratory animals is strongly preferred. Must be highly organized, reliable, and able to work well with others. The applicant should be self-motivated and self-directed, with the ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities. Good communication skills are critical. The ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality is a must.
Typical schedule will vary from 7:00am/8:00am – 3:00pm/4:00pm Monday through Friday. Weekend, evening, overtime and holiday work may at times be required.
